The 6th grade wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
from the Class of 2022!

During this busy time of the year, the 6th grade asks you to join them in remembering the reason for this holy season:

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shone around them: and they were so'er afraid.

And the angel said unto them: Fear not, for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly hosts praising God, and saying:

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST, AND ON EARTH PEACE, GOOD WILL TOWARD MEN.

- Luke 2: 8-14

Merry Christmas!

Active in the Lab and throughout the school...That's how we ROLL!!!

One of the hallmarks of a Holy Child student is that they are active ...active not only in the classroom but in a multitude of other events around HCA and in the community. Here is a quick look at what happened this week at The Academy with the Class of 2022 (and be sure to check out other teacher blogs for more Middle School activities)!

During the 6th grade unit on minerals, students examined characteristics of crystalline shapes before and after they dissolved. The class knew that the dissolved salts were no longer technically minerals because they were no longer solids. They demonstrated how the crystal structure of table salt and epsom salts reformed after the water evaporated and left the minerals behind. They also showed great school spirit during a free dress day to raise funds for the American Cancer Society!

We also celebrated Las Posadas during Community Time. It was a fun time shared with our school families, culminating in an all-school pinata event!

Back in the lab, Grade 6 learned about identifying characteristics of minerals by using streak plates to see how minerals can be identified in the field. We also made an attempt to make our own crystals through the nucleation of sugar...also known as making rock candy! We will see how successful we were next week (Mr. Hartsock can cook but this may not have turned out too well...just saying!)

Don't forget to make time to enjoy the season and blessings of family!

Busy in and out of the classroom!

That time of the year is upon us! Being busy in and out of the classroom is a regular part of the great vibe here at HCA. The Thanksgiving prayer service and teacher appreciation ceremony prominently featured members of the 6th grade...well done!

The Middle School also enjoyed a pre-Thanksgiving breakfast feast before the holiday events later that week in school.

This week, Grade 6 helped make tree ornaments during Community Time with the rest of the Middle School. There was a wonderful spirit of collaboration between the grades as they worked on their project!

Grade 6 was also busy in the science classroom where they began their study of minerals. After learning that minerals are classified only as solids, we examined some common salts under the hand lens to see their crystalline structure. We then dissolved the salts in water and poured the solution on dark paper to see if the crystals re-formed after the water evaporated.

Stay tuned for the outcome!

The Show Must Go On...even if for just one night!

The HCA community was, unfortunately, impacted by the evolving presence of the coronavirus when the decision was made to limit the perf...
