Active in the Lab and throughout the school...That's how we ROLL!!!

One of the hallmarks of a Holy Child student is that they are active ...active not only in the classroom but in a multitude of other events around HCA and in the community. Here is a quick look at what happened this week at The Academy with the Class of 2022 (and be sure to check out other teacher blogs for more Middle School activities)!

During the 6th grade unit on minerals, students examined characteristics of crystalline shapes before and after they dissolved. The class knew that the dissolved salts were no longer technically minerals because they were no longer solids. They demonstrated how the crystal structure of table salt and epsom salts reformed after the water evaporated and left the minerals behind. They also showed great school spirit during a free dress day to raise funds for the American Cancer Society!

We also celebrated Las Posadas during Community Time. It was a fun time shared with our school families, culminating in an all-school pinata event!

Back in the lab, Grade 6 learned about identifying characteristics of minerals by using streak plates to see how minerals can be identified in the field. We also made an attempt to make our own crystals through the nucleation of sugar...also known as making rock candy! We will see how successful we were next week (Mr. Hartsock can cook but this may not have turned out too well...just saying!)

Don't forget to make time to enjoy the season and blessings of family!

The Show Must Go On...even if for just one night!
